The Fastest Way to Collect Vendor Quotes: Stop Requiring Accounts

July 10, 2026 · 5 min read

Builder software keeps trying to solve bidding with vendor portals: give every trade a login, make them maintain a profile, and route RFQs through the platform. On paper it is tidy. In practice, a plumber who gets work from six builders is not maintaining six portal accounts — so the quotes come back by text message and the portal becomes an expensive address book.

The design mistake is assuming the vendor will meet the software where it lives. They will not, and they should not have to.

Tokenized links flip the burden

In onBuilds, a bid package generates a tokenized public quote link. The vendor gets an email, opens a public page, and prices the work — line items, notes, done. No account, no password reset, no app to install. The quote posts back into the bid package automatically, next to every other vendor’s number.

For the builder, the RFQ round becomes: build the package once, invite vendors from your registry, and watch quotes arrive in a comparable format. Award from the same screen.

The registry does the remembering

The vendor registry keeps the institutional memory — who bid, who won, who you dispatched, and what trade they carry — and it feeds both bidding and warranty dispatch. The vendors themselves never have to touch a login for any of it.

One honest caveat: this is a link you send, not a marketplace. Builders cannot browse subcontractors on the platform, and subs do not receive RFQs into an account. The public link is the whole point — it works for any vendor with an email address, whether or not they have ever heard of the software.

Turn public activity into a real pursuit.

Find active construction signals, research the builder, save the Opportunity, and keep the Bid and follow-up connected through the result.
